This is shaping up to be a bad year for pretty much everything. In these dark times, take a bit of solace in the fact that the fashion world is offering some surprisingly lovely trends. From enormous, colorful dresses to actually comfortable shoes, the once elitist, stilettos-only world of high style is becoming more egalitarian, and more accessible, than ever before.
In this new democratic world of style, the biggest rule is that there are no rules. You can wear a princess gown with sneakers!
Your gym clothes are now your work clothes and your party outfits are your weekday pick-me-ups. Everything’s topsy turvy and that’s not all that bad.
So, for those looking for something to be thankful for, check out 2 of-the-moment trends that will make our lives easier and chicer for the rest of 2018 and beyond.
“Business-Appropriate” Dress Codes Have Gone the Way of the Fax Machine
The trickle down effect of this trend might take a while, but on the runways, office-appropriate clothing got a serious makeover. Blazers were paired with embellished short shorts at Prada and loose, ’90s-inspired trousers at Tom Ford. At Céline, daywear was rendered in sherbet colors while Michael Kors topped off plunging tops and sarong sequin skirts with wide-cut blazers and flip flops. Just because you’ve gone corporate doesn't mean you can’t have fun.
Sports Bras for Evening Are Officially a Thing
Thank Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli for this one. At the brand’s Spring 2018 show he layered velour sports bras under some evening dresses for a look that’s as comfortable as it is posh.
